Historical display of a factory turned into a castle, and of a remarkable early XIXth century cristals collection.
The Schneider, a master of forges dynasty
Historical display about the family members of an industrial dynasty and their residence. For an evocation of this living and reception centre, see the Salon des deux Amériques decorated with panoramic wall paper and Mrs Schneider’s set of furniture.
Le Creusot : a city / factory
A better understanding of how a foundry gave birth to a city and to paternalism, a new type of social organisation, see the evolution of the industrial site and of the dwellings through a display of engravings, pictures and models.
An illustration of work
Through the works of late XIXth century painters such as Bonhommé, Layraud, Rixens and Rochette, Le Creusot’s painter. Starting from 1950, Rochette painted countless representations of the workshops and the world of workers.
Model factory and locomotives
The model factory, a master work by Joseph Beuchot, a worker at the Fraisons Forges. The animated model factory took 20 years to complete. Visit the reconstituted workshop of modelists Edmond Bernard, Marcel Talmy and Lucien Mothu and a collection of model locomotives.
Young visitors’ trail
Discover the castle and have fun. Children 8-12 visiting with their parents can get a game booklet from the front desk. Wander through the exhibitions inside and outside the castle and play the find-the-mistake game, the odd one out, etc. Some games require drawing, some others are questions and answers.
